Justin Homan visits the hospital

Justin Homan was out this weekend putting in some seat time and laying out his list of FMX tricks with some friends.

Early Sunday while at his local moto track, Homan ended his day short with an unfortunate crash sending him to the hospital. The nurse must of not given him enough painkillers because Homan gave us a call from his ER stretcher to tell us how it all went down.

MM: We saw a photo of your leg on your twitter… what happened?

HOMAN: Well Sunday I was riding Moto at the track with the boys, just warming up and getting some laps in. It was kind of crowded, your typical weekend track day with first timers, rookies, and a few vets out there. I came to this section of the track that went to a downhill jump. I was trying to avoid this dude who was so slow and a complete “lapper”. I moved over and tried to take the inside line and held it wide open for the pass. I don’t remember much but I landed on the edge/wall of the track and took myself out. I have it all on my helmet cam so I’ll send that over once I get out of the hospital so the Mulisha fans can check it out.

MM: So what broke and how are you holding up?

HOMAN: After the crash I came to my senses a bit and looked down and my leg wasn’t there! I looked around sketching out, and dude it was wrapped under my ass behind me. I wasn’t sure what to think at that point haha. I was just chilling there in a little pain but what can you do. I was surprised that it didn’t hurt that bad compared to other injuries I’ve had. The medics came over and shipped me out to the hospital.

MM: What did they find out at the hospital?

HOMAN: Right now I’m just sitting here in the ER room. I took on a broken Femur in two spots and a fractured pelvis. The break was 4 inches below my pelvis and 3 inches above my knee so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

MM: Damn! Well what is the next move for you?

HOMAN: Right now I am just waiting on surgery. I just want to get out of here and go back home with the family. I have been killing lots of time Tweeting Potter, Fitz and a bunch of other fans. I think I am going to watch Black Friday again when surgery is over haha.

Hit up Homan on twitter at @MX13Homan and leave him a get better message below.

I love Spa but this is just unbearable.
I wonder what the temps were last weekend.
Perhaps that 4 week break was too long.

Ducati pins hopes on re-organisation

Rossi Ducati

Ducati will re-organise its racing department and seek to take full advantage of its relationship with Audi from 2013 in a bid to once again rediscover winning form in MotoGP.

The Italian company also backed Andrea Dovizioso – confirmed for next season alongside Nicky Hayden – to help the manufacturer to improve its form over the past two years.

Ducati has not won a race since Casey Stoner triumphed in Australia in late 2010.

In the past two years, with Valentino Rossi and Hayden at the helm it has taken just three podiums, the most recent of which came in wet conditions at Le Mans this year.

Ducati president Gabriele del Torchio says Dovizioso’s arrival overlaps with a wider re-organisation in the hunt for future success.

“We are working on a re-organisation of the racing department,” del Torchio told Gazzetta dello Sport. “We are discussing this together with our friends from Audi.

“We’ll take advantage of their technology, especially electronics and simulator models.

“We have chosen Andrea because he has demonstrated the characteristics that we think could be useful: a fine tester, he has deep knowledge of bikes and is a fighter, as demonstrated by his five podiums this year.

“He is 26 with a future ahead of him, he is a conscientious and judicious person who uses his head. He is not the gung-ho type. He will help us in the improvement path that unfortunately isn’t finished yet but that we want to keep following.

“Two years ago we had great expectations. We had thought we could only do better. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

“But our motto is to never give up: let’s work, fix what hasn’t worked and get back on the improvement path. Ducati fans deserve better results. We are still capable of building the bikes, building real Ducatis.”

Del Torchio admitted there was a tinge of bitterness over Rossi’s decision to leave Ducati for Yamaha, which he feels was influenced by the Italian’s crash at Laguna Seca.

“[There is] a bit of bitterness for having been unable to satisfy the desires of the rider, who has been unable to interpret our bike’s characteristics,” he revealed.

“The Ducati bike did not meet Valentino’s expectations, everything got off to a bad start. Sometimes people who get married realise love isn’t the only glue.

“I think Valentino was heavily torn between [Ducati and Yamaha] until the end. After his strange crash at Laguna he decided that his target at 33 is to get immediate results, so he made a different choice. We leave each other in harmony, however.”

He added that he remains confident that Ducati can bounce back from its recent travails, saying: “We count on being closer (to the top). Work and intelligence can’t avoid rewarding you.

“I know, when you look at the results it’s a bit like cursing in a church, but as Batman says ‘the night is darker just before sunrise.’ I’m sure our sunrise will soon come.

Stoner undergoes successful surgery

Today in Australia, Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner received surgery to his ankle, which was damaged after his crash in qualifying for the Indianapolis GP 12 days ago.The procedure was performed by Dr. Lam's team in Sydney's North Shore Private Hospital. Doctors are pleased with how the operation went, and now must wait during this initial recuperation period to see how the ankle is healing. With no complications or need for Casey to stay in hospital, he has returned home and the Repsol Honda Team will endeavour to share information on Casey's recovery as it is known. Pedrosa had faith he would win

Dani Pedrosa HondaDani Pedrosa said he still thought he could win the Czech Grand Prix even when Jorge Lorenzo overtook him half a lap from the finish.

In an epic showdown at the end of the Brno race, Lorenzo slipped inside long-time Pedrosa on the final lap, only for the Honda to retaliate going into the last few corners and edge back ahead.

Lorenzo then braked ultra-late into the final S-bend only to run wide and let Pedrosa accelerate through and claim victory.

“It was a difficult last lap because I knew Jorge was very fast in the middle of the corner,” said Pedrosa.

“I could hear the bike following me. I knew just a small opening would let him come in.

“In that left-hander I just opened the door a little bit more than normal and boom, he was immediately in and I saw his frame in my face.

“There was half a lap to go and I was a little more nervous than before but I also knew had some strong points coming towards the end of the track. So I tried to get my best drive up the hill.

“In almost the last corner I get alongside him. He tried to release the brakes and we were head to head into the corner but I could win this race.

“It was amazing and I’m just so happy.”

Pedrosa’s victory reduces Lorenzo’s championship lead to 13 points with six races to go in the 2012 MotoGP season.

Perez: No reason to leave Sauber

Sergio PerezSergio Perez wants his Formula 1 future to be sorted out in the next few weeks, as he insists there is no reason for him to leave Sauber.

The Mexican has had an impressive season, scoring two podium finishes so far, and has been linked several times with a future switch to Ferrari.

But with Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo claiming earlier this year that Perez was still too inexperienced for that move to happen now, it is almost certain that he will stay put.

“It’s getting closer to when I have to make a decision and I haven’t made one yet,” said Perez ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. “It’s still a bit early, but it has to be made quite soon, in the next weeks.

“I’m not really worried about it. I’m in a good position, and I’m just thinking about the second half of the season, which is the most important for me.”

When asked if there were any updates on his situation at Ferrari, Perez said: “No, not really. Nothing has changed in the last month, and that is why at some point, I need to make a decision.”

With Sauber having produced a competitive car this season that has allowed Perez to shine on occasion, he certainly sees every reason to remain where he is.

“Sauber is a great team doing a fantastic job,” he said. “When I go to the factory and I see the people so motivated every day, I don’t see any reason why I want to leave. I’m happy here, and every day I’m more comfortable.

“I think the team can build a good car for next year, so I don’t see any reason to step away from it. I’m in a good position, the team is doing a good job and I’m happy.”

Sunday Summary at Brno: Of Racing Like Champions, Bad Luck, & Replacement Riders

Dani Pedrosa has something of a reputation. Blisteringly fast when out on his own, but put him under pressure and he crumbles. Once passed, he is history, and he will trouble you no more. There has never been that much truth to that accusation, and the MotoGP race at Brno should drive the final nail into its coffin, for what the diminutive Spaniard displayed on Sunday was the heart and courage of a lion. Who dat?

This week I caught up with Kevin Windham. In the video below, Kevin Windham talks about the Superbowl Champions, the NFL's New Orleans Saints, his family, his future plans for racing and beyond.

The Superbowl XLIV champions, the New Orleans Saints, have many fans - among them is none other than the number 14 in Supercross, Kevin Windham. While the NFL season started when Supercross was in its off season, Kevin was able to take part in season tickets to his favorite NFL team - da' Saints. Eventually the 2010 Supercross season got underway in January, which meant Kevin was flying off after those Saturday night Main Events back East to watch the New Orleans Saints Playoff games.

On February 7, 2010 the New Orleans Saints headed to the Superbowl in Miami, Florida and Kevin Windham and his wife Dottie made arrangements to attend this momentous occasion. First, however Kevin had to finish up a Supercross race in San Diego the night before.

Junqueira to stand in for Newgarden

Bruno JunqueiraChamp Car veteran Bruno Junqueira will replace Josef Newgarden at this weekend’s IndyCar race in Baltimore after the American was ruled out with a broken finger.

Newgarden underwent surgery on his left index finger on Tuesday after breaking it in a crash with Sebastien Bourdais at Sonoma last weekend.

The Sarah Fisher Hartman driver said that he is targeting the season-finale at Fontana on September 15 for his return.

“I’m really disappointed to not be in the car this weekend but I know Bruno will do a great job,” Newgarden said. “I’ll be in Baltimore helping Bruno and the team in any way I can and focusing on healing for Fontana.”

Junqueira was a three-time championship runner-up in Champ Car, picking up eight wins along the way. He is currently racing in the American Le Mans Series with RSR Racing, and said that he is looking forward to getting back into a single-seater for the first time since 2011 Indianapolis 500 qualifying.

“I am very happy to be back in IndyCar with SFHR for the Baltimore race weekend,” Junqueira said.

“Sarah’s team is very organised and has been fast all season. They have done a great job with Josef and I hope to give them a good race weekend in Baltimore while Josef is healing.”

Positive test for Pedrosa and learning day for Rea

The Repsol Honda Team were back on track in Brno today after Dani Pedrosa's fantastic win in yesterday's Grand Prix of the Czech Republic.Dani spent the day completing a busy testing programme covering many areas, including chatter issues and also a new rear shock. Also on track for Repsol Honda was Jonathan Rea, replacing the injured Casey Stoner. Jonathan used this first test to familiarise himself with the 1000cc machine and adapt to the Bridgestone tyres. The team will resume their test schedule in Aragón on the 4th and 5th of September. Dani Pedrosa"Today, we've done a general test looking to improve the feelings we had in yesterday's race. We tried some ideas to reduce the chatter, but this is something very difficult to fix, so we've been basically working on the electronics and the suspension trying to find more edge grip and in the exit of the corner. I tried a new Öhlins shock which gave me some positive feelings and now we have some new ideas to try in Aragón next week. The track was a little bit slower than yesterday and in the afternoon it was quite windy, but this test was important as it's a good track to test at and I had all the references still fresh from yesterday's race".Jonathan Rea"It's an opportunity of a lifetime for me and I'm thankful to Honda for asking me to be here, although I'm gutted for the guys in the team and obviously for Casey as he is the guy that should be here and I wish him a fast recovery. My first impressions are that the bike isn't that difficult, it's the tyres and the way they work that I'm finding hard. I'm struggling to finish off the corner which is definitely a confidence issue as I just need to load the front and find that confidence but it's my first day and I don't want to find that limit, or risk overstepping it just yet. It's great to be able to see Dani's data and learn where to go fast, that's a big help.I don't underestimate how tough a job it is, I just need some time and I don't feel pressure to perform, it's a learning process with the team and people around me. It's been a great day, one of the best days of my life. I've been a Honda rider all my career and now to ride the best Honda machine in the World has been a dream come true".Communication Repsol Media -www.repsolmedia.com -

"One of my best races" - Pedrosa

Dani Pedrosa had a race to remember at the Czech Republic Grand Prix. In a thrilling duel with championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, Pedrosa took his third win of the season with a frenetic last lap, in which two overtaking moves decided the contest. The Repsol rider held on to claim victory at Brno and move to just 13 points off the lead in the overall standings. Starting from third on the grid, Pedrosa gained a place at the start and slotted behind current series leader, Jorge Lorenzo. Both were protagonists in a speedy start, continually breaking the circuit record as they looked to match one another. At the midway point, Pedrosa moved past Lorenzo on the brakes before the final chicane and took the lead. The dynamic of the race remained the same, with both riders on the limit. The show reached its peak on the last lap, in which Lorenzo used the agility of his Yamaha on the smooth corners to get back in front of the Repsol rider, who responded with a repeat of his earlier move on the brakes. He slipped through on the inside and hit the brakes at the last moment, running Lorenzo wide in his attempt to hold the position. Covering any attack on the final corner, Pedrosa accelerated on the straight to take his third win of the season —and his second in the space of a week. This was Pedrosa's first MotoGP win at Brno, where he had already triumphed in 125cc and 250cc. He reaches eight consecutive races with podium finishes —eleven from his last twelve. The Spaniard now holds 232 points in the standings, 13 behind Lorenzo and with 150 still up for grabs. "Today was one of my best races in MotoGP ever, to win with a big gap is always nice, but to have a battle like today with Jorge, it's sometimes more rewarding", Pedrosa said. "It was a difficult last lap because I knew that Jorge was very fast in the middle of the corner and I could hear the bike right on me and I knew that just the smallest gap would allow him to pass. In fact, in that left corner I opened the door just a little more than normal and 'boom' he was there, I could see his bike in my face! With just half a lap to go, I was a little more nervous than before but I knew I had some strong points coming to the end of the lap." "I tried to get the best drive out of the hill and then in the last corner I was beside him, when I released the brakes we were side by side in the corner and I was able to take my line and win the race. It was amazing and I'm really happy with this victory, for all my team and also for my father because it is his birthday! For the Championship we must keep up this momentum as Jorge is riding very strong and consistently in the top two. Testing will be important to set us up for the final part of the season, so let's see what we can do".

Marquez extends lead

The track had dried out sufficiently to be declared a dry race, with Interwetten-Paddock's Lüthi making the best of the conditions at the start taking the lead early on ahead of Pons 40 HP Tuenti's Espargaró and Márquez. Marc VDS Racing Team's Scott Redding's race was unfortunately ended very early, as the Brit crashed out after three turns. It was Márquez who made his intentions known early on as he fought past his compatriot into second. Speed Master's Andrea Iannone, not wishing the leading trio to pull away, overtook Came IodaRacing Project's Simone Corsi with 17 laps to go, pushing past Espargaró shortly after. The group at the front stayed tightly bunched for a number of laps and it wasn't until there were 13 laps remaining that Iannone battled his way past Márquez into second. This only lasted for a lap as the Spaniard fought straight back, as Espargaró had a moment sticking with the group in fourth. With track conditions still not ideal after the wet track before, riders were tentative to make rash moves, leading to uncharacteristically cautions racing. Eight laps before the end however Espargaró sized up Iannone and took him on the inside, as further down the grid Tech 3 Racing's Xavier Siméon and Federal Oil Gresini Moto2's Gino Rea both crashed out. As Márquez looked for a way past Lüthi, Espargaró went past him into second, although was taken straight back. He was subsequently ordered to drop a place, after being sighted for passing under a yellow flag. He did however not see the pit board instantly, yet Iannone helped him by passing him with four laps remaining. This ignited an entertaining battle between the pair, as Lüthi lost the lead to Márquez. The dice for fifth place was also gaining momentum a few laps before the end with JiR Moto2's Johann Zarco and NGM Mobile Forward Racing's Alex de Angelis swapping positions frequently. The final lap was a thrilling affair with Lüthi and Espargaró desperate for the lead, with Iannone mixing it up as well. The Swiss rider looked to be lining up a move in the final turn, yet did not have enough drive on to the straight, meaning it was Márquez who took the chequered flag, with Lüthi and Espargaró completing the rostrum. Márquez now holds a 48-point lead at top of the championship standings in front of Espargaró. Fourth spot went to Iannone, followed by Corsi, De Angelis, Zarco, Tech 3's Bradley Smith, Redding's teammate Mika Kallio and Pons' Esteve Rabat.

Prodrive and Sordo hoping for better luck next time

Story from www.wrc.com

Sordo arrived in Germany on the back of four days of testing and with hopes of a podium finish at the wheel of his MINI John Cooper Works WRC. Instead, a puncture and an accident left the former Junior world champion languishing in ninth place at the finish in Trier on Sunday afternoon.
“We came here believing we had the pace to get a podium and by Friday evening and Saturday morning we were demonstrating that,” said Wilcock. “However, everything changed on Panzerplatte with the unlucky tyre deflation then Dani's off, and after that it was damage limitation.
“While I am clearly very disappointed with the result, I am pleased with the pace we have shown. We can now focus on preparing for France in six weeks comfortable in the knowledge that we continue to have the pace to compete at the front.”
Spaniard Sordo added: “I am very disappointed, because we were going so well before the puncture and after that we were in sixth and didn't really have anything to fight for. The car was good and I think we can improve the car further and with more luck get a much better result in France. France and Spain are really good rallies for me and for the car. We can do a good job on both.”

Ross Chastain Hopes to go Wide Open with Melon 1 at Michigan International Speedway

MOORESVILLE, NC – August 15, 2012 – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Ross Chastain and the SS Green Light Racing team will join thirty-five other competitors this weekend as the NCWTS begins the second half of the twenty-two race 2012 season. Saturday, the truckers travel to the Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan for the VFW 200 at the freshly repaved 2-mile Michigan International Speedway.

For the second straight race the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender will have backing from Melon 1, one of the largest shippers of fresh watermelon in the United States as the Florida teen looks for a second consecutive top-ten finish.

“We’re real excited to have Melon 1 back on our Toyota again this weekend,” Ross said. “We’ll also have the Illiana Watermelon Association and Engine Parts Plus giving us a hand. We appreciate all the support that we have been getting this year.”

“We were going to bring the truck we ran at Texas to Michigan but after Pocono we switched and we are going to run that truck again. I just like the way it felt and hopefully we can get that same feel on the new pavement at MIS. They say you can run anywhere on the track, I’m looking forward to see where our Melon 1 Tundra will run our best times.”

“They said I should hold it wide open, we’ll see. We’ll take our time getting out on the track and I’ll talk to some people that I talk to a lot and I’ll go to Todd (Bodine) after he goes out to see if he still says what he said before. Then I’ll find out for myself if we can do it,” Chastain continued. “I met Todd a long time ago and he helps me as much as anyone at the track.”

Prior to the race, Ross will pay a visit to the University of Michigan’s C.S Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan to visit with young patients at the Hospital to sign autographs and hand out watermelon coloring books and stickers to the children. “I went to the Children’s Hospital in Fort Meyers back home and it’s a real humbling experience that makes you appreciate your health. It means a lot to them to have visitors and I’m glad to be able to go.”

The VFW 200 is the 282nd consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the seventeenth career start for Chastain in the Truck Series. Ross has moved up to seventeenth in the NCWTS point standings and has four top fifteen finishes in 2012 including a career best seventh at Martinsville in March and tenth two weeks ago at Pocono.

There are 35 trucks on the entry list for the VFW 200, which will prelude the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pure Michigan 400 at the Michigan International Speedway. Johnny Chapman is set to pilot the No. 07 for SS Green Light Racing.

Practice for the VFW 200 will be Friday, August 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. with a rare third practice from 2:10 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, August 18th there will be two laps of qualifying at 9:35 a.m. and the green flag will fly in the VFW 200 at 12:30 p.m. All times Eastern. Story from www.wrc.com

Atkinson, from Australia, was making his debut for the Motorsport Italia-run team on the all-asphalt round of the FIA World Rally Championship, which finished in Trier on Sunday afternoon.
The Australian, a former factory Subaru driver and semi-works Citroen pilot, hadn’t driven his MINI John Cooper Works WRC in competition before and was tackling a sealed-surface round of the global series for the first time since 2008.
“This result has given us a good base to work from so big thanks to the team who have done a fantastic job all weekend,” said Atkinson. “Our strategy was to get through a tricky rally without making any mistakes and it paid off. We can start fighting a bit higher up now and start moving forward.”
While Atkinson finished a strong fifth, team-mate Paulo Nobre was forced to withdraw on Saturday and return to his native Brazil for family reasons. He had dropped out of contention when he retired on day one following an accident.

DC Moto TF Ride Day with Josh Hill

In the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship series, Josh Hill consistently found himself on the podium. He ended the season sixth overall in points, in which he finished second in 5 of the 17 Main Events. In July, Josh spent time preparing for the 'Speed and Style' event for X Games 16. His practice session went from 'landing a backflip on his first attempt' to 'under rotating the next time around.' This horrific crash sent Josh to the hospital with a list of injuries and a whole new respect for the sport of Freestyle Motocross. I caught up with Josh, at Pala Raceway for the DC Moto TF Ride day, where he talked about his rehabilitation, his plans for Supercross 2011, and more!

Josh Hill at the DC Moto TF Ride Day

Angela: Hey Josh, you are looking good. How are you feeling?

Josh: Yeah I am getting better, everything is starting to heal up and I am getting to where I can function normally again. So it is getting better, but I need to focus on getting my body stronger. That is my main thing right now.

2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 Outed – Team Green’s Answer for a Small-Displacement Sport Bike in the USA?

Two curious things happened today: an EPA certification document outed details on the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and Kawasaki USA announced the “global debut of its 2013 line of iconic Ninja motorcycles in New York’s Times Square.” Add in to the mix that the EPA documents also make mention of Kawasaki Ninja 300 & Kawasaki Ninja 400R models, along with the recently updated Kawasaki Ninja 250R, and Team Green could very well be dropping the ...

Sunday PWRC wrap: Germany magic for Michal

Story from www.wrc.com

Polish ace Kosciuszko hadn’t won in the category since triumphing on the season-opening Rallye Monte-Carlo in January in his Mitsubishi Lancer, but celebrated a comfortable first place ahead of Ralliart Italy team-mate Benito Guerra, from Mexico, who continues to lead the PWRC standings.
Marcos Ligato, from Argentina, completed the podium in his Top Run Motorsport Subaru Impreza, with Ricardo Trivinho a strong fourth and Nicolas Fuchs recovering from earlier delays to claim fifth overall in his Symtech Racing Impreza.
“It’s been an incredible weekend and the perfect job for us,” said Kosciuszko, who was quickest on two of Sunday’s three stages. “The team did a good job and the car was really well prepared. It was a nice fight with Benny but just unfortunate he made a mistake and had the puncture. But that happens if you are pushing hard. The most important thing is we are still in the game and we can win the championship now.”
Guerra, who was fastest on stage 14, added: “Second place in Germany for my first time is a good position even though the fight was over yesterday when I had my puncture. Michal did a great job but 18 points for me for the championship is very good. We are still leading and I am really happy because of this.”
Indonesia’s Subhan Aksa restarted under Rally 2 rules following his retirement on Saturday to finish sixth. Valeriy Gorban completed the finishers in seventh as Mentos Ascania Racing team-mate and fellow Ukrainian Oleksii Kikireshko dropped out on the final morning.

Redding and Kallio both on the pace at Brno

Scott Redding Brno 2012

Scott Redding and Mika Kallio remain confident of challenging for the podium in this weekend's Czech Republic Grand Prix, after a successful opening day at the Automotodrom Brno. Redding ended the day fourth fastest on combined times, with Kallio just four places further back in eighth.

The positions at the end of the day were the reverse of those after this morning's 45-minute first free practice session, which ended with Kallio fourth, Redding eighth and the top 15 riders all within once second of the fastest time, which was set by Pol Espargaro.

While Redding used this afternoon's session to up his pace on new tyres, Kallio focussed instead on fine-tuning the set-up of his Kalex Moto2 machine.

Redding pushed hard during the first part of this afternoon's 45-minute practice, moving steadily up the timesheet and eventually posting the fastest lap of the weekend with ten minutes left to run. The Marc VDS rider's hold on provisional pole position was short-lived, however, as his lap time was disallowed for cutting the track at turn two, demoting Redding to fourth place on combined times.

Kallio lost time at the beginning of this afternoon's free practice to a technical fault with the quickshifter on his Kalex Moto2 bike. Despite continuing with the same tyres with which he'd completed the morning session, Kallio lapped within three-tenths of his fastest lap this afternoon and is confident of further improvement ahead of tomorrow's all-important qualifying.

With the top 18 riders within one second of provisional pole sitter, Pol Espargaro, Sunday's Czech Republic Moto2 Grand Prix promises to be a closely contested affair.

Scott Redding #45: 4th - 2'03.397
"Brno hasn't been a good track for me in the past, but on the trip here from Indianapolis I spent a lot of time thinking about how I could improve here. One of the things was not running wide out of the turns, which isn't easy to do, as it's sort of my style. It's worked pretty well today and the only slight issue I've had is with edge grip. It was a bit annoying to have my fastest lap disallowed, as I was on the limit everywhere, but better it happens today rather than in the last five minutes of qualifying. I thought I was only half a tyre width off the track on that lap, but when I saw a replay it was a lot further than that, so it was a fair cop! Anyway, it was red helmets all the way for the rest of the lap, even though I wasn't pushing that hard, so I know I can run that pace, or maybe go even faster, tomorrow."

Mika Kallio #36: 8th - 2'03.626
"Our plan was always to stay on the same tyres for both sessions today, and to save a set of new tyres for qualifying tomorrow, which was why I was a little slower in the afternoon compared to the morning. We also missed completely our first pit exit this afternoon because of a problem with the shifter, which cost us quite a bit of time. We also tried a few suspension changes that didn't really give the improvements we were expecting, so we need to come back a little bit on the settings for tomorrow. I'm confident I can qualify well tomorrow and, if I do that, then I'll be up there fighting for my second podium of the season on Sunday."

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal
"It's been a good opening day for both Scott and Mika here at Brno. We knew Mika was going to be fast here, as it's a track that seems to suit his style perfectly, which he proved by setting the fourth quickest time this morning. He continued with the same tyres this afternoon, which meant he didn't improve his lap time, but the extra set of tyres he now has for qualifying tomorrow should see him on the front two rows of the grid if all goes well. This is a track that Scott has struggled at in the past, but his approach to this weekend has been very calculated. He knew where he needed to improve and, as his fastest lap this afternoon shows quite clearly, that's exactly what he's done. It's a shame he had the lap disallowed today, but he's held his hands up to cutting the track and it's far better to have this happen today, rather than in qualifying tomorrow!"

Schumacher prepares to mark 300th race at Spa | 2012 Belgian Grand Prix

Michael Schumacher, Mercedes, Hockenheim, 2012Michael Schumacher will make his 300th F1 race appearance at next week’s Belgian Grand Prix.

Schumacher reaches the milestone at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit where he made his F1 debut 21 years ago.

“Spa is like my living room,” said Schumacher. “For me, it’s clearly the number one race track in the world.

“It’s uncanny how I always seem to have special moments there – my debut, my first win, a world championship victory and many great races.

“The fact that I will also take part in my 300th Grand Prix at Spa was somehow almost inevitable and we will have to celebrate it in the right way.”

Rubens Barrichello is the only other driver in F1 history to achieve 300 participations.

Schumacher added: “I’m proud to be just the second driver in the history of the sport to reach this milestone and there’s no question that we are looking to have a particularly nice weekend.

“We delivered a good performance in Spa last year; I’ll be doing everything possible to drive a strong race.”

Schumacher has won the Belgian Grand Prix six times, more than any other driver. He has appeared at 299 races so far and failed to start two of them: the 1996 French Grand Prix (engine failure on the formation lap) and the 1999 British Grand Prix (did not participate in restart).
