Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko Strong

Before warming up and putting in a ride at the Compound, Garland and Jacko went question for question for an uncensored update.

jacko garland Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko Strong

JACKO: So Garland, how are you today?

GLAND: Doing great bud. Getting ready for a great practice sesh here at the Compound.

JACKO: Alright sounds good… Now let’s get into the serious stuff. You’ve got to marry one, bang one, and kill one. We’ve got Shane’s wife, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, and Jimmy Hill’s sister. The noble thing to do would be to kill Shane’s wife.

gland 300x168 Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko StrongGLAND: Yeah, I’d have to. Sorry Shane, it’s the most reasonable thing to do. As for Hill’s sister, I’ve never met her but he has that long hair so I don’t know.
JACKO: So answer the question… are you gonna bang Hill’s sister?
GLAND: Yeah.
JACKO: Looks like your’e marrying Fitzpatrick. Your fucked! So what’s your plan for 2013?

GLAND: 2013.. Nuclear Cowboys is kicking off we will see what the rest of the year brings with some demos or tours. I don’t know… we’ll see if the worlds still standing after 12/21/12… that’s the end of the world apparently.

JACKO: Fuck… Looks like I’m going on a bender! I never even knew. I thought that was next year. Well we shouldn’t plan too far ahead. I guess we will just worry about then. How’s the love life?

GLAND: It’s good… girlfriend.

JACKO: That’s a slippery slope.

GLAND: How about you? Whats new in the world of Jacko Strong?

sled Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko Strong

JACKO: Not much really… I am now a professional sled rider. Freestyle is just a hobby now. Welcome to Australia, we have a bobsled team. Let’s talk about the beard because the beard is coming back… Who is ready for a beard ride?

GLAND: The beard was around for about 3 years, and then went away and now it’s coming back.

JACKO: It’s gone, you got a chick.. You’re like “she aint’ leaving me now” so you’re gonna grow it again.

GLAND: Exactly.

Garlandbeard Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko Strong

JACKO: Do girls hate beards? I know chicks are absolutely repulsed by mullets. Fuck.. every single girl that sees you with a mullet just turns their nose up at you. So you gotta go with a beard.

GLAND: Yeah. A beard is kind of a hit or miss. They either love it or hate it… and I guess there’s some indifferent ones.

JACKO: Do you ever get any chicks that come up to you and ask you if they can sit on your beard?

GLAND: Of course… Especially in the Midwest you know. They like it out there. I think back in the day a lot of the men had beards, and I think some of the girls still like that I think.

JACKO: Yeah, it makes you feel like the alpha male. If I could grow a beard I would have one… I’ll put it that way.

GLAND: Working on any new tricks?

JACKO: We have Summer X Games coming next year so just training for best trick. The pressures on, I have to quit drinking beers and start thinking it’s that time of year again. I don’t know, after the whole winter things over I’ve got a couple of ideas and a couple of tricks that I’ve already done in my foam pit in Australia. So I’ll be back the 9-5 grind trying to figure it out. Putting the time in. How about you… How’s that boat going? Have you had any boats and hoes episodes yet?

jackox Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko Strong

GLAND: The boat is good it still floats… I’ve had a couple of issues of water in some of the compartments.

JACKO: They make a pump for that, don’t they?

GLAND: Yeah it’s all good… It happens. But yeah, maybe some big adventures, maybe Catalina, maybe Hawaii… who knows.

IMG 0938 Uncensored Update with Derek Garland and Jacko Strong

JACKO: Do you think Australia might be in the sights? Pack the bike and storm the streets to my pad?

GLAND: I think so… I think it’s definitely do-able with a 27 ft. boat. I think I’ll either make it or I won’t… but it will be a fun adventure.

JACKO: Sounds good. Well then you can do that one first on your own.

GLAND: Yea, ill meet you there.

JACKO: 10-4 rubber ducky over and out.

KTM announces Coma unable to ride in Dakar 2013

KTM, the brand whose factory teams and bikes have sealed eleven consecutive Dakar Rally victories announced in a press conference in Barcelona on Friday that one of its key riders, Spaniard Marc Coma will be unable to ride in the 2013 edition of the world's most famous rally. Coma, who injured his shoulder in an accident in the Morocco Rally in October is not completely fit. The team has therefore decided he should not tackle the event that involves more than 8000 km of perilous riding over the world's toughest offroad terrain through Peru, Argentina and Chile. "Marc is one of our key riders and together with his teammate Cyril Despres has giving KTM the last seven Dakar titles. While we are disappointed that he is unable to ride, the health and welfare of our factory riders is the most important consideration. If he is not 100 percent fit, it is better for him to sit out the 2013 rally," said KTM factory team manager Alex Doringer. Coma, winner of three Dakar titles and the reigning World Cross Country World Championship is, together with his teammate Despres, recognized as one of the world's finest exponents of rally sport. A deeply disappointed Coma spoke after the press conference saying: "We worked really hard with the doctors and the physiotherapists right up until the last minute but we have to be realistic. One of the muscles in my shoulder is still giving me problems and there is a lack of movement. This is the logical consequence and we must be honest and clear about the situation." Coma, who will now concentrate his efforts on regaining complete fitness ahead of the rest of the 2013 season and looking forward to the Dakar 2014 said he was sad for the team but underlined that the Dakar is a 'winning project' for KTM so there was no alternative than to make this announcement. Team manager Alex Doringer said he hoped Marc would be at the start in Lima to wish the team well and see them launch their attack.
Doringer underlined that in view of the high profile that the Dakar Rally has for KTM, that the company had always taken the precaution of having a reserve rider registered with the Dakar organizers, ASO. He said they had now given the green light for the accredited reserve rider to step in and ride Coma's KTM 450 Rally bike. "We always took the precaution to have a reserve rider properly registered in case of such circumstances and it will be KTM USA's Kurt Caselli who will step in to ride Coma's bike. We want him to ride the Dakar without any pressure, embrace the adventure and learn from the experience," Doringer said. Caselli is at the forefront of the US offroad scene and is the current AMA National Hare and Hound Champion. He is a multiple national title winner in premium US offroad events, has been a stalwart in the US International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) Championship and was a member of the KTM team that recently finished second in the 2012 edition of the legendary Baja 1000. Caselli's start number is yet to be confirmed. Kurt Caselli: "It has always been a goal in my career to compete in the Dakar. There would be no way possible for me to achieve this without the ongoing support of KTM. To be able to race the greatest off road race in the world aboard the best bike in the world is truly a blessing. This is not only a milestone in my career but also in my life."Communication KTM Racing News -www.ktm.com-

Go Pro Moto – QLD Moto Park MX1 Motocross

Some footage from my Go Pro Moto helmet cam. Riding a CRF450 on motocross track 1 at Queensland Moto Park. The track is rutted and has the normal braking and acceleration bumps as it doesn’t seem to be prepped that often. Like track two it has a handful of table tops but with a mix of tight and wide corners and short straights.

Overall the track is not bad considering what off road riding parks are available in Queensland.

Some footage from my Go Pro Moto helmet cam. Riding a CRF450 on motocross track 2 at Queensland Moto Park. The track has a lot of off camber turns, a handful of table tops and a small section of whoops. Some tight corners and short straights.

Might be worth checking out if you live close enough or are planning a bike holiday in queensland.

Rutted Corners

There are two obstacles you will always have to face on the track: ruts and corners.  Combine the two and traversing themcan be frustrating.  The power and torque that modern four strokes produce is pretty incredible and lines get dug out quickly.  Corners are the backbone of speed which makes it essential to be extremely proficient in riding at any situation.

One thing that has always helped me is to concentrate on one corner that is giving me problems.  Try to get to the track later in the day when it is rougher and not as many people are there.  Find your corner and enter the track safely in the section before, then hit the corner and go back to the previous section to repeat.  If there aren’t many people, this will allow you plenty of time to find what you need to work on.

The first aspect you need to look at is your entrance technique.  You want to be in the attack position all the way through the chop.  Braking should be gradual; do not lock the back tire up or the rear end can sway side to side.  For inside ruts, putting more emphasis on the front brake will get your front forks to squat lower so you can carve harder.  As for outside lines, it is better to use the back to keep more momentum up.

When it comes time to sit, the process from standing to sitting should be one, fluid motion.  You sit, put the inside leg up, and apply the throttle smoothly.  Some have a tendency to blip the throttle and it bounces them around.  The suspension throws the rider from the flow of the turn as leaning and steering become out of sync.  A simple way to help with this is to just look ahead!  When you approach the corner, look at the apex.  As you get closer to the apex, begin looking further and further ahead to the next obstacle.  You go wherever you look.

One overlooked method is to stay relaxed.  Ride with the turn and don’t try to blast through it.  Don’t tighten up so much and worry about messing up.  You know how to ride a bike so have confidence in your abilities.  Take some time to get this down and you will be making up time on every one.
