Traversing Flat Corners

One of the great things about a worn down track is the help from ruts and berms.  Sure they can make things difficult, but they essentially help us keep our speed up in the corners.  Just like in NASCAR, the angled surface allows the bike to lean over and still find plenty of traction.  However, there are situations where you don’t always have this luxury and you must bring out your inner flat tracker.

Since you don’t have any help with your leaning, the entrance needs to be a little bit different.  When approaching the corner, take a wider approach than you normally would.  If you have ever watched any kind road racing, drives use wide lines that are smooth arcs.  Traction is very important here, so you want to get all of your braking done before you start to lean in.  When you are upright, the tires have the most bite for better braking.  Just like normal turns, you want to be in the attack position and keep looking ahead.

When it comes time to sit down, remember that this is one, fluid motion: get off the brakes, sit up on the gas cap, leg out and apply the throttle.  The smoother you are, the easier the corner will be.  Sitting up close to the gas cap will put as much weight on the front wheel as possible for optimal traction which will give you some confidence when you lean in.  The best way to sit is on the outside edge of the seat.  This keeps your weight centered and straight down, rather than out and away.

The basics really play a big role in this situation.  That outside elbow better be up and the outside peg should be weight.  Again, this puts more emphasis on traction.  If you feel that the rear wants to drift out still, you can drag the rear brake to weight the back end down.  This is a great technique to use on the exit when power is put to the ground.  However, if you have a steady throttle hand, you won’t need to use this as often.

Drifting out too wide can leave the door open for a pass.  Keeping your elbow up and weight on the outside peg gives you the traction to power through the turn and avoid drifting out.  Unlike riding through a wide arc, squaring up flat turns robs momentum and drive.  It is time consuming and a waste of energy.  Once you find that balance between leaning and twisting the throttle, these corners become excellent passing opportunities.

Teknic Xcelerator Suit - On Sale for just $679!

A new Teknic Xcelerator suit is coming soon for 2013, so it’s time to start clearing out what we have left of the original. Get yours now for just $679 shipped anywhere in the lower 48! This more than $600 off the retail price of $1299, so don’t miss out!

This deal is not available on our website, so be sure to give Brad a call at 866.931.6644 ext. 810 if you’re interested. You can also feel free to send a PM through the forum, or send an email to FORUM at RIDERSDISCOUNT dot COM with “Teknic Xcelerator Sale” in the subject line and we’ll get back to you right away!

Teknic Xcelerator suits are made with a combination of 50% Brazilian cowhide and 50% kangaroo leather. These two different types of leather are designed to provide excellent abrasion resistance and light-weight for maximum protection. The entire leather suit is built around the rider’s needs with Kevlar flex panels in the arms and stretch Cordura panels in the legs to accommodate a wide range of uninhibited motion without sacrificing safety. Seams are put together using Teknic Advanced Seam Construction (TASC) which provides additional rows of stitching below the outer exposed seam reducing the likelihood of two pieces coming apart. This is especially critical in areas where contact with pavement is inevitable in a fall and, to further avoid the risk of seam failure, the shoulders are reinforced on the outside with Teknic Airblade armor with aluminum inserts and aluminum elbow sliders. An added benefit of the Airblade CE-approved shoulder protection is the ventilation aspect as the hollowed-out armor directs air into the suit.

Inside the Teknic suit, you’ll find CE-approved armor in the elbows and knee/shins that’s adjustable for perfect positioning thanks to a hook and loop attachment schema. Each piece of armor has two hinge points built-in, further aiding ease of movement while the tapered edges make them less noticeable to begin with. In terms of protection, each piece of the included CE-approved armor exceeded EC1621.1 thresholds by 30%! CE-approved armor is also available to be fitted into the chest pockets. Further looking after protection is an extra layer of cowhide on the shoulders, elbows, knees, aerodynamic hump and seat. Even the accordion stretch panel at the back of the suit has an extra curtain sewn into its inner side to impart extra abrasion protection.

Pedrosa on the hunt as Repsol Honda prepares for Aragon GP

Dani Pedrosa Misano 2012

The Repsol Honda Team travels to Motorland Aragón this weekend in preparation for the fourteenth round of the season and the third visit of the 2012 MotoGP World Championship to Spain.

Motorland Aragón welcomes the MotoGP family for the third consecutive year and has been a successful venue for the Repsol Honda Team in the past, with both Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa topping the podium in 2010 and 2011, two victories for the Australian rider and two second-places for the Spaniard.

Dani Pedrosa, who will celebrate his 27th birthday on Saturday, arrives confident and ready to put the issues he had Misano behind him - the first race this season without points due to an incident on the first lap. Pedrosa, currently second in the standings 38 points off Jorge Lorenzo, is in great form and the results of the test held at Aragón at the beginning of this month will give him high motivation.

Aragón will be the second race for Jonathan Rea as substitute rider for Casey Stoner, who continues his rehabilitation in Australia. Fresh from Portimão, with a 6th and a 2nd place in the two races of the World Superbike Championship, the British rider is looking to make another step forward on the RC213V at a circuit where he also tested with the Repsol Honda Team.

Dani Pedrosa
"Aragón is a very good race and the circuit is impressive. We went there with the team for a two-day test at the beginning of this month and we did a good job. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing the Spanish crowd again, it would be great to see the circuit full of people like we had in the previous years. The bike is working well and I'm feeling good; we go there with the same determination as always and motivated to continue riding well and have another good race."

Jonathan Rea
"I am now in week four of my five back-to-back races including both SBK and MotoGP but I am still really excited about this coming race. Having tested in Aragón on the RC213V a couple of weeks ago I am feeling more confident coming to this race than I was in Misano. Hopefully I will be able to pick up where I left off after the test as I was really starting to bond with the bike. Aragón has a really long straight which suits the power of the Honda and I am really looking forward to working with the Repsol Honda guys again and building on the experience I have gained to date."

France lead FIM World Trophy, FIM Junior World Trophy & FIM Women's World Trophy

Day Three: On day three of the 2012 FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Saxony, Germany, the French squad continued to stretch their lead in the FIM World Trophy team classification while in the FIM Junior World Trophy team competition France took control of the proceedings to become the third different race leaders of the class in as many days. Continuing the French dominance, France also extended their position as leaders of the FIM Women's World Trophy team class. It was another dominant day for France in the World Trophy team competition at the FIM ISDE. Showing no signs of slowing down, they stretched their lead to almost nineteen minutes. Led now by Antoine Meo – KTM, France are firmly fixed at the front of the standings with Meo, Pela Renet – Husaberg, Christophe Nambotin – KTM and Johnny Aubert – KTM also in control of the top four positions in the individual overall classification. After three demanding days of racing, Australia holds a comfortable second place and head third placed Italy by nearly eight minutes. Day three proved to be a difficult one for Italy as Oscar Balletti – Beta was forced to retire. Despite the retirement of Balletti Italy remain ahead of fourth placed Spain by three minutes and twenty-four seconds. Benefiting from the retirement of Finland's Juha Salminen – Husqvarna, USA ended the third day of competition in fifth. For the third day in a row the FIM Junior World Trophy team competition saw a new race leader. Fighting hard to recover from their disappointing start to the event, France now top the standings. Overcoming a thirty-eight second deficit from day two, France hold a sizable one-minute and twenty-eight second lead over Great Britain. Although losing control of the race, Great Britain continue to impress in this year's event and at the halfway point in the FIM ISDE enjoy almost a nine-minute advantage over USA.In the FIM Women's World Trophy team competition France extended their advantage. Headed by team leader Ludivine Puy – Gas Gas, they are now thirty-nine minutes clear of second placed Australia. However, with Germany ending day three as runner up to France, the home nation has now moved to within six minutes of Australia. Behind the top three nations Finland and Sweden completed the top five.In the individual overall classification, Meo took his third straight day win of the event to extend his lead in the Enduro 1 class to two minutes and forty-five seconds. Behind him Finland's Eero Remes - KTM remains in second position, while France's Rodrig Thain – Honda moved into third. Untroubled at the front of the Enduro 2 category, Renet maintained his one-minute advantage over Aubert. Placing one-minute and twenty-two seconds behind them, Italy's Alex Salvini finished day three in third place. In the Enduro 3 class, Nambotin gradually improved his race lead to two minutes over Australia's Toby Price – KTM, while Italy's Manuel Monni – KTM overhauled Sweden's Joakim Ljunggren – Husaberg to finish day three in third.Live and full event results can be found at www.fim-isde-live.info

Nico Terol 2 Years More with Aspar

Nico Terol Misano 2012
Nico Terol extends his relationship with Aspar Moto2 for next 2 years. The 2011 125cc's world champion will stay with Jorge Martinez 'Aspar' team until 2014. The history between Terol and Aspar was build since 2010 on the 125cc class.

Jorge Martinez 'Aspar', Team Owner
"I am delighted to officially announce the contract renewal with Nico Terol. We remain committed to a rider born and raised in the Cuna de Campeones [“Cradle of Champions”, junior racing series in Valencia]. He was last year's 125cc World Champion with the Mapfre Aspar Team, and the year before he was also runner-up with us. This season he has taken an important step in Moto2, especially in the last few races, but I hope that at the remaining GPs until the season finale he continues to improve. I’m completely confident, and we knew that when coming up to Moto2 he would need time to adapt. But we have made this commitment because we believe that next year he will be fighting for the top positions in every race."

Nico Terol
"I am delighted to have the support of the Mapfre Aspar Team next year. This season is a little trickier than we expected; but in any case, it is part of our learning curve in Moto2, and we are preparing for next year. Having cleared up my situation with the team right now, gives me extra motivation to give everything in the final part of the championship. I'm very happy to continue with the same technical team, as our rapport is great. I am convinced that in Moto2 next season, we will be fighting for top positions. I want to thank Jorge for trusting me, for the effort he made to keep me in their structure, and for giving me one of the best motorcycles.”

2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Series Preview: Lake Elsinore MX

It's all down to the finale for the 250 AMA National Motocross Championship. Blake Baggett, who has held the points lead all season long, leads Eli Tomac by 14 points, and Justin Barcia by 18 points.

Thursday was media day at the track - the first time the facility has been used for a Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross event. The track is long ... very long. It's also mostly flat, and the dirt is very soft and spongy.

Let's start with what happened last weekend at the Steel City event - you can see the results, photos, and point standings coming into Lake Elsinore.

And, coverage of the Lake Elsinore race on Supercross.com will be here - http://www.supercross.com/ama-motocross-race-results

And the Women's class has quite a battle as well - three riders are all in contention for the championship at this finale round - Jessica Patterson, Ashley Fiolek, and Tarah Geiger. Women's results will be here - http://www.supercross.com/ama-womens-motocross-race-results

What do we want to see at Elsinore? A knockdown-drag-out-brawl that comes down to the final last of the last moto for the 250's! Then again, that would be pretty close to what's happened each time the gate has dropped for the 250 class all season long.

2nd Annual DC Moto TF Ride Day and Invitational Poker Tournament

Supercross 2011 is right around the corner! So much is going on, both publicly, but also behind the scenes. One public and noteworthy item - DC Shoes has a new three year contract with Monster Energy Supercross!

Adam Cianciarulo

I was invited to the 2nd Annual DC Moto TF Ride Day and Invitational Poker Tournament at Pala Raceway. It was a full day's 'work' for the DC Athletes; group photos, action shots, interviews, and lots of MX riding at Pala. And there was good game of Poker to raise money for Road 2 Recovery. The list of Athletes sponsored by the DC Shoes brand is a very impressive group making this Supercross assignment unique fun for me!

In what will be a popular announcement, InFront announced the return of the crowd-pleasing track Laguna Seca to the World Superbike calendar in 2013. After an eight-year absence, the Californian track, famed for its brutal last corner and the roller-coaster Corkscrew chicane, will once again give the fans unforgettable action.

Whether it replaces Miller is yet to be seen, but the calendar is shaping up to be a good one.
