Finally, the Green Machine that is Kawasaki USA had a good day at the office, snapping up both top steps in Dallas and restore some pride back into the camp. Whilst the 450 class had the usual tussling for the top, the 250 class had no such issues with Deano bringing home the bacon big style. Mr Payton might even have been tempted into the tiniest of smiles.
450 Class
OK so Villopoto got the job done for the second time this season but to be honest it’s been a long time coming, Whether it’s the 2013 bike or the weight of expectation, something has held back RV like a stone stuck in his back brake, and finally he shook it loose on the hard pack in Texas. But it’s a measure of his reduced confidence that in post-race interviews he’s now wishing for Davi to have a bad day rather than thinking he can overhaul the points deficit by his efforts alone. Millsaps meanwhile clocked up a solid second to keep the dream alive and in keeping with the three horse race that is developing, Dungey did enough to keeps things in sight. As for Stewart – a former racer called Bubba would have been screaming at the mechanics to fix the clutch right up to the point the gate dropped, rather than just throw in the towel and walk away. His head, like his talent has seemingly checked out.
For Atlanta this weekend, expect Millsaps to own the event as he moves closer to his home town, with maybe Barcia in tow. Our pick for the top is thus Millsaps, Barcia, and Villopoto.
250 Class
Like Postman Pat in the village of Greendale, Dean Wilson always delivers, and Dallas was no exception. Wilson owned this class like a shark amongst minnows, leading from start to finish without breaking a sweat. In another era, Dean would have stopped for a cheeky half at middle distance. As predicted Wharton posed the best challenge, but it was reasonably toothless what with Dean having dropped the hammer and set up a race winning lead. Third spot fell to Hahn, and in retrospect we were a bit dim to overlook the Hahn family’s experience in stadium SX. Marvellous Marvin was slightly less than marvellous in fifth but it’s a fine start that needs to be followed by a quick podium at the second East Round.
But it was Justin Hill that really impressed and the one we are picking to follow Dean and Blake over the line on Saturday
Prediction is a bold but considered Dean, Wharton and Hill. Do I win the stickers…?
Catch the action of the heats and qualifying on Moto and the racing a day or so later, if you haven’t had a go at predicting – have a go – no one has got all six places correct yet!
