Vautier secures Milwaukee pole

Tristan VautierTristan Vautier held off Victor Carbone and Sebastian Saavedra to secure pole position for this weekend’s Indy Lights race at Milwaukee.

The leading trio were comfortably quicker than the rest of the field around the one-mile oval, with Schmidt driver Vautier taking the honours with a two-lap average of 146.884mph. Carbone and Saavedra finished up at 146.429mph and 145.100mph respectively.

“It feels so good to be on pole for this track because it’s a tough track,” Vautier said. “Our car was awesome this morning.

“I felt a lot of pressure going into qualifying because I knew we could do it, and I just had to do the job. But there are 100 laps, pole is one point and the race is worth 50 points, so we have a lot of work ahead of us still.”

Current points leader Esteban Guerrieri finished the session with the sixth-fastest average speed at 142.259mph.
