Kristensen set for Spa 24 Hours debut

Tom Kristensen Audi ILMC Imola 2011Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen is to make his debut in the Spa 24 Hours in the last weekend of July.

The 44-year-old Dane, an eight-time winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours, will join recent double la Sarthe winners and Audi team-mates Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer in one of Team Phoenix’s R8 LMS ultras.

“I’m hugely excited, because it’s something completely new for me,” said Kristensen. “I’ve not driven the Audi R8 LMS ultra in a race before. And I haven’t actually ever competed in any other 24 hour race apart from Le Mans.

“I’m competing together with Andre [Lotterer] and Marcel [Fassler] for the first time. They’re two excellent team-mates and they’ve just recently won in Le Mans.

“Audi Sport Team Phoenix is strong too, as it recently showed with its victory in the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

“We call our team manager Ernst Moser ‘The Pusher,’ because that’s what he does – he really works hard and pushes us as far as we can go. We’ll set ourselves high aims and then we’ll see how we do.”

Audi will have four R8s in the Belgian endurance classic – a sister Phoenix car driven by Andrea Piccini, Rene Rast, and Nurburgring 24 Hours winner Frank Stippler, and two Audi Sport Team WRT machines piloted by Marco Bonanomi, Oliver Jarvis, Edward Sandstrom and Christopher Haase, Christopher Mies and Stephane Ortelli.
