Forty may be the new thirty. Where five years ago automakers would advertise the impressive 30-ish-mpg-highway rating of a mid-size family sedan, we’ve reached a point where new models are breaking into the high 30s. Nissan’s brand-new Altima, for example, is rated for 27 mpg city and 38 on the highway.
